Dear Phoenix Families,

As we continue to navigate the challenges brought on by the recent bomb cyclone, we want to extend our deepest gratitude for your resilience and community spirit during these times. The safety and well-being of our community are always our top priorities. If your family was impacted by this weather disaster, please reach out to us; we are here to support you and your family.

Your support and involvement at home are invaluable, not only in times of crisis but every day. The partnership between our families and our school is fundamental to the success of our students. Your efforts at home reinforce the learning and values we strive to cultivate at Jing Mei, making a significant impact on our students' educational journeys.

Following the recent severe weather events, our district is currently working to update our school calendar to include emergency make-up days. We understand the importance of planning for our families and aim to provide you with the new dates as soon as they are finalized by the district. Please look out for an update in the coming days, which we will share through our usual communication channels.

Thank you for being such an integral part of our community and for all the ways you contribute to making Jing Mei a wonderful place for our students to learn and grow!

We invite parents and/or students to participate in our Racial, Equity, and Inclusion Team (REI Team).Meeting Details:

During our monthly meetings, we will focus on important topics, including:

• Exploring lesson materials aimed at promoting anti-racism and inclusion
• Reviewing Jing Mei's Big Three Expectation posters
• Introducing resources to support positive behavior, presented by Ms. Brenneman

We will provide additional agenda items before the meeting to ensure everyone is well-prepared. Your participation is vital as we work together to make Jing Mei a better school for all. Parent/Guardians and students are welcome to join this meeting and we will send more invitation in the future.

Update on Chinese Assessment and Level Learning Platform

As we continuously strive to enhance our educational tools and resources, we wanted to share an update on the adoption process of the Level Learning platform and its role in our Chinese language assessments.

Current Status: The six-week trial accounts for Level Learning expired as of November 20, 2024.

Next Steps:

1. District Policy Compliance: To introduce new supplemental materials like Level Learning, we need to:
   • Obtain approval from the Executive Director.
   • Follow the Instructional Materials Committee (IMC) adoption process.
   • Form a committee including developers, teachers, parents, and students to conduct a thorough review focusing on Equity Driven Decision Making (EDDM) and adherence to Procedure 0130P, details of which can be found here.
2. Community Involvement:
   • Committee Participation: We value the involvement of our community in this process. If you are interested in joining the adoption committee, please look out for an upcoming invitation to fill out a survey expressing your interest.
   • Developer Eric Huang will be meeting with our Chinese teachers from 1st to 5th grade to discuss how Level Learning can best serve our curriculum needs and address any concerns.
3. Educational Continuity: While we navigate these procedural steps, our students can continue to enhance their skills using platforms like Mandarin Matrix and iChinese Reader. These tools are excellent for practicing skills identified as "not mastered" in the reports.
4. Looking Ahead: We have scheduled a Professional Learning Community (PLC) meeting on December 11 with all grade levels, where we will outline the Chinese assessment plan for the middle and end of this school year.
5. Kindergarten students will use another assessment plan to capture students' learning progress in Chinese. 1st grade to 5th grade teachers will work together to identify and finalize our plan for this year.

We appreciate your patience and enthusiasm as we work through the necessary steps to potentially integrate Level Learning into our educational framework.

Join the Bellevue School District MLL team for an evening dedicated to exploring the world of language learning and helping students and families choose the school and program that matches their interests.

Location: Highland Middle School Date: Tuesday, December 3, 2024 Time: Drop in anytime from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

What to Expect:

Attendance Matters!

As we approach Thanksgiving and winter breaks, the Bellevue School District reminds families that it is important to try to avoid missing school days before and after the scheduled breaks. Thanksgiving break is Thursday, November 28 - Friday, November 29, 2024. Winter Break begins Monday, December 23,

2024. Students return to school on Monday, January 6, 2025. If your family is traveling during these breaks, please ensure that your student can rest and get back on schedule prior to the start of school.

Every day of school is important and provides an opportunity for students to learn and connect with peers and teachers. Even two absences a month (excused or unexcused) can significantly impact student learning. Make it a goal to attend five days a week and have fewer than five absences in a semester. If your child is healthy, encourage them to show up to class when school is in session.

We are very thankful for our students and families who do their best to show up daily even when it isn’t easy. We are grateful for our teachers and administrators who make school a welcoming and safe place for students to learn. We appreciate our support staff and community partners who provide the extra attention that our students need.
