Dear Jing Mei Phoenix Families, We have had a wonderful start to the school year and are excited to welcome many new students, including 96 kindergarteners, to our Phoenix community. We currently serve approximately 620 students from PreK through 5th grade. Students are settling into classroom and school routines, making new friends, and getting to know their teachers. While some students adjust quickly, others may need additional time and support. We encourage you to check in with your child regularly and share any concerns so we can work together to support their social-emotional well-being. As children learn and grow, they will occasionally encounter social or behavioral challenges. These moments are a normal part of development and provide valuable learning opportunities. When school staff reach out, it is not a reflection on a child or family. Rather, it is an opportunity for us to partner together, problem-solve, and help students develop the skills they need to be successful. Thank you for your trust and partnership as we support your child together. To better support students, our school now has a Student Success Coordinator (SSC) who works alongside our school counselor and principal to support students' social-emotional learning and behavioral needs. This position was added by the district in elementary schools that do not have an assistant principal. Many families know Ms. Vera Pan from her previous role as our secretary and attendance specialist. This year, she transitioned into the SSC role. We are also pleased to welcome Mr. Justin Henley, who has joined our office team. If your child brings home a Phoenix Ticket, please celebrate with them! Phoenix Tickets recognize students who demonstrate our Big 3 Expectations: S: Solve Problems 解决问题 A: Always Show Respect 尊重 M: Make Good Decisions 做出好的决定 Students in grades 1-5 are currently completing fall assessments in English, math, and Mandarin. These assessments help teachers understand each student's strengths and needs so they can provide targeted instruction and prepare for upcoming parent-teacher conferences in the next two months. Thank you for your partnership as we establish routines for transportation, lunch, recess, arrival, and dismissal. Your support helps us maintain a safe, welcoming, and positive learning environment for all students. Sincerely, Principal Tan
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival from SSC Ms. Pan, Counselor Ms. Brenneman, Principal Ms. Tan ![]()

凤凰卡旨在表扬展现学校"三大目标"(Big 3 Expectations)的学生: S:解决问题(Solve Problems) A:尊重他人(Always Show Respect) M:做出正确决定(Make Good Decisions) 目前,一至五年级学生正在进行英语、数学和中文秋季评估。

Mental Health Resources for the BSD Community
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, spread hope, and spark meaningful action around one of the most urgent mental health issues of our time. Families are encouraged to take time to learn about warning signs, common symptoms, behaviors and risk factors — making a commitment to prioritizing suicide prevention. A variety of mental health resources, including information about suicide prevention, can be found on the Mental Health Support section of the district website. Other topics covered include anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and substance abuse. Individuals seeking support may also reach out to school counselors and MHAT counselors.
The Bellevue School District has also partnered with Care Solace to complement districtwide efforts that support the well-being of students, families and staff. Care Solace is a free and confidential care coordination service that can help you quickly find mental health or substance use treatment options matched to your needs, regardless of circumstance. Care Solace is NOT an emergency response service or mental health service provider. If you have a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988. The Care Solace team is always available — including nights, weekends and holidays. |
